I already have slip ons and am considering completing the stage 1 for my M8 Road King, however I'm having difficulty choosing an air cleaner. I like the SE Ventilator but don't like the way it exposes the cable/plug underneath.
I like the Arlen Ness inverted cleaners but they stick out further than stock and my knee already rests on the stock cleaner so don't really want it to stick out more. Likewise the heavy breather impacts too much on my knee. So can anyone recommend an air cleaner for stage 1 that doesn't stick out further and keeps the cable/plug underneath covered please? I'm not keen on the bobber style ones on the touring models

well since you said considering and not "I've decided to" ....my recommendation is to save your money on AC and tuner and keep the OEM AC and which covers and protects everything and you don't need to worry about rain sock since you're in the UK, assuming it's wet a lot? you won't gain much in power..RK is the lightest touring bike by about 100lbs or more so doesn't need performance upgrades as much as its larger siblings

on my EG standard i just bought a K&N oiled filter and modified the stock cleaner by cutting an opening at the bottom. you can also take the entire black portion off and just have the chrome.....assuming the stock cleaner covers are the same as mine

Hmm. According to Harley's website a Road King is a whole 1 lb. lighter than a Street Glide. You must be talking about the models with Tourpaks.

It does indeed rain a lot lol, but I don't ride in the rain. The reason for considering the Stage 1 is because ideally I'd like to do a Stage 2 torque kit at some stage, plus I'm not too keen on the black plastic bottom part of the OEM air cleaner cover.

That does look quite nice, does it stick out much? I'd have to have the black dye/oil rather than the red dye though.

That is very nice. Not sure if it's more suited to the Road King Classic though, I'll look into these
