My 2019 Road King is now out of warranty and so I'm considering getting a stage 2 (price depending) and have a few questions. Currently I just have V&H Twin Slash slip ons which I love as they give it more of the "potato potato" sound at idle, and whilst I know it's never going to sound like a pre twin cam it's much better than it was in this regard, so I'll need an air cleaner and tune as well.
My main question is, does a torque cam kit have any negative effect at all such as introducing more vibrations or "lumpiness"? Also, is there any risk that any particular cams get rid of the "potato potato" sound, or will they all enhance it to a small degree? I'm not sure which cams we can get in the UK but are there any recommendations to maintain the smoothness of the engine and keep/enhance the sound please?
I am sure I'm in the minority but here goes... I had a stage III installed in 2017 prior to delivery, the cam caused a weird comp noise from its lumpiness. I actually asked the tech, " whats that noise" when I first heard my new bike. So I had a second M8 with an aftermarket stage II and yes it made the same choppy compensator noise that I really dislike but accepted it as another M8 quirk.. I own a Pan and Shovel too, and love the sound those engines produce, My new 2020 M8 is staying with its stock cam because I truly dislike the way the M8 sounds when cammed up.

Thanks, that's what worries me. I could do with hearing one but we're very limited in the UK, even more so where I live.

Check out YouTube videos for a lot of options with M8 cams.
I have the Woods 22xe and it sounds ok but I think the S&S 475 has a lot more of the sound you are looking for.
Ive had 2 bikes with the SE TQ cam, stage 2. They ran well for a compliment set up but didnt have the same sound as aftermarket.
Numerous cams out now that will give a very nice lope from minor to a full hard hitting lope. As others said, the more lope the more the stock comp sounds off at idle. I have a S+S 475 and when my bike is warmed up and idling the lope pounds on the stock com. Like **** said, seek out specific cam videos on YouTube and at least get some kind of idea. Remember though, because a cam sounds good doesnt always mean its gonna run good, need to figure out what kind of power/torque curve works best for your needs.

Thanks guys, I've listened to a few but most have aftermarket headers or other bits and bobs so it's hard to know what's causing what sound. I'll keep looking, and hopefully when the weather picks up and the salt's off the road I might be able to find somewhere to hear them myself.

Here is a clip of my bike with S+S 475 cam, stock header, stock ventilator AC, magnaflow slip ons and tuned with TTS. So pretty much a bare bones cam job with a set of slip ons.
