installing a cam with the fuel moto kit (pushrods, gaskets etc.) Not sure what the 4 smaller orings are for and have a couple singles in another size without a home (cometic gasket kit). FM was closed when I discovered this so couldn't call them. Was hoping to finish this up tomorrow. Also, have the S&S lifters with this install kit and the FM instruction sheet says "approximately 3.5 turns on their pushrods (24tpi). So,,,, what is approximately? I'm 3.5 turns and one flat at the moment. How do you know whats right?
If I recall, there are two different types of pushrod tubes. The OEM has the middle o-ring seated in a recess at the top of the lower tube for the inner piece of the tube to seal against.
I swapped my chrome OEM for HD black tubes. They had the older style O-ring for the middle where its not seated in a recess of the outer tube.
The kit included o-rings for both styles, so you will have left overs.
The other ones are for the oil pump. When I did my cam install, I didnt remove the oil pump so I have those leftover as well.
As for the lifters, 3.5 turns is 21 flats. I marked my starting flat, and went 21.5 flats. My valve train is as quiet as can be on my 21 FXLRS w/ 22XE cam and S&S lifters.
When I did mine, with the same kit, they include orings for the oil pump lines if you were disassembling the lines as well, which they told me, most people will not need need them, so you will have extra.I did the same thing and marked mine, went one completed revolution, which would be 6 flats, did that 3 times which is 18 flats, and then 1/2 turn more is 3 more flats which is 21 flats. Let the lifter bleed down, spin pushrod easy, then went turned back tire and went to next cylinder.
If the lower and mid pushrod O rings are not Viton, toss them in the trash. HD stopped using Buna/nitryl 0 rings there on the M8s. The fact that they are black makes them suspect. I stopped using Buna on TCs also..
