just got my new 2022 street Glide Special out for the first time , have owned 3 twin cam street glides previously , first thing i noticed was a noise at lower speed on accel and decel . hard to describe as whirring / droaning type noise , stopped at my dealer and they say its the " counter balancer" and its normal . is this new on the 2022? or did previous M8 all have this to? im good if its the new normal - just curious . i have saw a few people comment on it in different threads

Really since 2017. Its fine. Will probably either lessen over time, or you will stop worrying about it. Probably both.
you' ve owned previous Harleys, you know they are not Lexus like quiet..probably just normal, our 4 M8s aren't whisper quiet but less engine noise than our Twin Cams without a doubt...if you still are curious, go test ride another like model year..since this was your first time out on yours the other new one will be an apples to apples test..then you'll know exactly
Probably the balancer that’s in all M8s, however if it gets louder when hot vs cold engine and worse yet on a hot day the primary chain may be too tight, they get tighter the hotter it gets. Mine is better since I loosened up after I found the primary chain banjo string tight with a cold motor.
The slack now is barely OK with the adjuster locked in the loosest setting.
The noise is there but in the background vs before it was the dominant racket.
I also came from a Twin Cam, a 2003 Road King, it had a dead quiet primary and transmission (5 speed)
I've had EVO, Twin Cam, now the M8. The M8 is my first 6 speed, and is not as quiet as the old 5 speed. This new trans has the neutral rattle, bad on a hot day, that was supposed to be fixed with a new design "scissor gear" 1st gear set. Didn't work on mine! Two dealers not interested in chasing noises under warranty.
None of these bikes had/has a quiet valve train, all with lifter tick/clatter at different RPMs, most RPM points dead quiet.
The M8 clatters at 1900-2010, 2480-2520 RPM.
So if the whine noise is the only noise count your blessings! I've decided to leave it all "as is" unless a noise changes from what I've become used to. I did address the primary since too tight = bearing damage over time.
