I would not doubt 125 degree difference, all you have to do is research " what is operating temp of cat converter ".

I gave the Design Engineering Inc. Heat Shield Liners a try...for only $65 from Summit Racing, it "looked" like an easier and safer solution than Pipe Wrapping.
It comes with liners for each heat shield, including the cross-over to the left muffler.
I did not bother to install the left muffler/cross-over shield liner. That liner would not help with the heat that gets radiated from the top of this pipe anyway!

They are trickier to install and align than the DEI Instructions would suggest.
It took me at least 1.5 hours, carefully removing the stock heat shields, applying the two-part liners and then reinstalling the heat shields.
I have 1" floor board extensions, so I did not need to remove or loosen the right floor board to access the front pipe heat shield.

In summary, we've had a very hot summer in Southern Ontario, and the liners seem to make a noticeable difference reducing radiated heat from the header, but do not expect a tremendous difference!
Were they worth the cost, time and effort? Possibly...I've spent much more on other modifications that have had much less "bang per buck"

Removed my cat 2 weeks ago on my 21 Road King. Definitely less heat that has measured with my IR gun approximately 125 or so degrees like someone else said, and a deeper tone and slightly louder. My slip-ons are Cobra Neighbor haters which I really like and like better now. If you have a passenger, they will really appreciate less heat on their right foot.
