Default Need Help

Yesterday ended poorly purchased a 2018 road king with a freshly installed fuel moto 124 kit and woods 22xe cam.

After coming to an off-ramp for fuel the bike started knocking or ticking loudly. I shut it off as soon as I was able and had it towed

i broke down the bike today looking for possibly a bad lifter which I found some wear marking on the rollers but not sure how else to test if they are bad. Upon removal of the the cam cover and cam plate I noticed minor metal shaving and gold tinged oil. I need advice should I put in new lifters change the oil and see what happens or dive further in?

Unless you are sure of what went south, and have corrected the issue, I wouldn't put it back together. Did you disassemble that oil pump to see what it looks like?

It definately looks like there is some trash in the sytem. How were the pushrods when yoiu removed?
I see nothing there that would knock or tick but as others said, split the oil pump apart and look for scoring from the lobes to case.

I would also open the oil filter and check whats in there. If it has lots of metal shavings I would re-group.

Can see the marks on the lifter rollers, but how does the cam look? Do the lifter rollers turn smoothly and is there any play or up and down movement on them? Can you depress the lifter plunger easily by hand?

Are you certain where the noise was coming from? Could it be from the left side?

Drain the oil and see what is on the drain plug. Pour the oil through a fine paint filter to check for metal and cut open the filter to check for metal there too. Remove the oil pump from the cam support plate and check for wear on the bushing. And check the crank runout as mentioned by NorthWestern and let us now what the runout is.

None of the lifters can be depressed easily by hand. There is some sides to side play on all of them is there supposed to be none? Cam does not appear to have any abnormal wear. I will check crank run out in a bit. I dumped the oil and more gold looking flakes in there. Couldn’t pull the filter yet missing my good filter wrench so will do that later. The flakes are non magnetic.

Side play on the lifter rollers is normal.

You need to remove the oil pump from the cam plate and check the bushing on the cover for wear. But crank runout is the thing you need to know first.

Thanks for the help below is a photo of the cam plate crank hole has some witness marks but doesn’t feel too rough. Is this normal?

I have a new dial indicator coming tomorrow morning to measure run out.
