I swear insurance is such a damn scam. My last tour in the Marine Corps has brought me out here to Hawaii, so I change my policy to out here. Goes from 312 a year to 737 and this is through Progressive. I call yesterday to Geico to get a quote and with the same coverage 333! I call Progressive to explain/see if they'd match and they say nope sorry. I say cancel and called Geico back. Amazes me how 15 minutes saved me 15% or more...LOL
That's really nopthing to complain about. That's is capitalism and the American way of life. You've defended it, and now you are experiencing it. I can't think of a better success story.
Get this...My bike ran $317 last year (Geico). I get wrecked by a pick up truck, Geico settles with me, (they got reimbursed from the other guys insurance co.) They give me $10,200 or $8200 for my bike and let me keep the $2000 salvage, which I took and then rebuilt.
I buy a 2004 BMW R1200 CL to ride while I rebuild the Harley. Geico adds the bike for $184 to the Harley policy and reduces the Harley to $300 because its no longer my daily commuter (obviously.)Simple so far.
Here comes renewal this August 4th and the Harley jumps to $794 all by itself. With the Beemer I'm over $900! I call and they explain that because its a salvage title, they won't know what I'm going to build and don't know how else to cover whatever it turns out to be. (huh?)
I shop around and explain my situation to other agents and Progressive comes in at $444 and $195 for the two bikes. I'll take it.
Here's where it gets goofy: I call Geico to drop the Harley to go with Progressive (Geico was still cheaper to keep the BMW with them,) and they ask if they can call me back in half an hour. I say sure. They call back and the Harley is suddenly reduced from $794 to $394 in just 30 minutes. The Geico agent said they had a change of heart and value my business.
Scam? Ya' think? (Of course even with pictures it should be interesting to see how they value the Harley this time around when its now a salvage title, should that ever occur. I guess we'll see, but I bought the policy earlier today.)
I've been fortunate to have lived all over the place and I realize depending on where you live it will go up/down, but when I moved here I couldn't believe how much it went up. That price was more than what I was paying on both my bikes back in NC. I asked the agent the reason and I was told it's because I live a state that has a pretty bad problem with bike theft. Me being gullible for a few months I just accepted it. It wasn't until I was talking with a buddy out here did he tell me what he was paying/who he was using (Geico) did I decide to call. I expected it to be at least what I was paying or a little cheaper, but $400 less? What irritates me as well is USAA (vehicle provider) goes through Progressive to provide recreational insurance, so I was assuming since I have been with them 20+ years that would account for something. I guess not these days...

That's the bike in my sig line.
I wish I understood how the industry worked, at least then I wouldn't feel like I was being taken advantaged of. When I called Progressive to cancel, they didn't even ask why, they just said done and bye. They did go over my other policy that I have on my other bike and they noticed I was still paying (5 months) on my bike that I brought out here. They said, oh so you've been double paying! I say, well how did this happen considering I called and moved my policy to out here? The lady I was talking with had no clue, she just cancelled it and credited m account.
Another thing that happened was I get a notice my account was being cancelled. So once again I call to see wtf. I'm told it's because when I opened up my policy here in Hi I didn't provide a copy of my license. I say, so you do realize I've had motorcycle insurance with you all for years, plus not to mention my other back in NC was not pending cancelation. The lady says, that' s weird let me see what's going on. Come to find out they were wrong and just didn't know what the heck was going on...
Hey Top,
I was at Kaneohe Bay 98-01, cars with Geico, moto with Progressive at the time. I hear you about USAA. Having been with them and Navy Federal over 25 years, auto, home, life and various investments, and a FICO score over 830, they're not even competitive, I still went elsewhere to buy my Harley Davidson. Someone else mentioned it, the days of life long loyalty and companies reciprocating are of days past. Sucks.
Semper Fi and enjoy Oahu, my oldest is TSgt at Hickam right now.
FYI, lava rock roads and trade showers = not cool!

I hear ya, I drives me crazy how loyalty equals nothing these days. Kills me here how it sprinkles on you when there is no cloud in sight? That's cool about your boy. I hope someday my boy will take the plunge in one of the services...
