Were on our way to Daytona for bike week from the UK - arriving next Friday the 27th.
We've been to Daytona on day trips whilst on vacation in Florida but always in the summer when it's pretty much dead!
Of course, we've never been to bike week so we're pretty excited to be coming!!
My question is - WHERE THE HELL DO WE START?!!!!
We'd love to do a mix of everything really, we wan't to go to a couple of custom shows, do some vendor shopping, people watch and visit some of the Bike Week bars and concerts. Unfortunately riding is out this time because of the high costs of renting (the exchange rate has killed that idea off!)
Suggestions would be welcome - and hell, if we can meet up with any of you lot - even better!!
Check out www.officialbikeweek.com. Pretty good schedule of events. Gotta do Main Street and Destination Daytona areas. Must stop by Daytona Int.Speedway. Couple of big swap meets in the area. Bars and bands all over the place. St Augustine is not far away and a nice change of pace. Kennedy has a rocket launch Thursday night (March 5th). Whew! Gonna be a busy week
Daytona BikeWeek is a three ring circus and impossible to see it all. However, you can see a lot and have a great time just about anywhere you go.
There are pocket sized books free everywhere with things to do and see. Are you renting a bike or what? I'll be getting into town probably on the 28th or the 1st. Shoot me a PM maybe we can get together. I'm camping, but I haven't decided whether to stay at the Cabbage Patch or ABATE.
Start? Well, ytou have to stop by Main Street (beach side). Stop in Boot Hill Saloon, Froggies Saloon, (Plenty to see).
Go North of Daytona on Highway US 1.....you'll see the Iron Horse Saloon. Stop there (or where ever you can find parking). North of there is Destination daytona. Might take a while (traffic) but stop there.
Bike week wednesday.......find US 92 (International Speedway Blvd)...drive west and turn left on CR 415 (Tomoka Farms Road). Leave early in the morning to go watch the "Coleslaw wrestling".
You will not get to see everything......no way. But those are some highlights.
Stop by the racetrack (also on US 92).....Me? I hang out on Main street and at the Iron Horse.
I would second the guy who said take the 1 hour trip to St Augustine for a day - a really amazing historic town worth the visit - oldest town in North America. Make sure and take the trolley tour.
