Default CoolFlow Fan for Pre-M8 Bikes

Finally! HD has made a CoolFlow fan for the pre-M8 touring bikes. Kit No. 26800152. I ride in the hot. I ride in the city. I want one!

But....Houston, we have a problem. There is more stuff in the kit than I need. Namely the aux power buttons and harness for the dash. I have an Ultra, It has factory aux lights, so it came with the button on the dash. I also have a set of MotoLights, which required the harness and extra buttons to be added; Kit No. 71400106.

Now... reading the CoolFlow install instructions (shocker, I know). I found the part number for the fan unit (26800151), available on Surdyke. Great! Plug and play with the parts I already have installed, and for $200 less than the kit.

Finally the last problem.... The fan wants to plug into the same position (ACC-3) on the accessory power harness as the MotoLights. DAMNIT!

How do I get both the fan and the lights to work off of separate dash switches?!? I thought maybe the Switched Circuit Adapter Harness
Part No. 70264-94A. It is for SIMULTANEOUS switching, which I don't want. I'm thinking it is as simple as splice the lights into the other (ACC-2) pig-tails on the accessory harness. It can't be that easy, right?

I just installed some aftermarket lights on my 14 FLHTK. All I bought was the switch for $16 bucks and put it in the ACC-3 position then tapped the power wire to that switch under the tank. I am thinking maybe you can just tap the ACC-2 wire under the tank for the lights, and use ACC-3 for the fan.. Just a thought.

That's a good idea. The harness MotoLight sent has them already wired back to under the seat. So it should be easy enough to adjust them to the other side of the accessory harness.

My bigger concern with switching the lights to ACC-2 position is for "accessories below 2 AMP." I have no idea what the draw is for either part. I do have the LED MotoLights, so that helps, but there is a blue 15-amp fuse on the MotoLight provided harness.

You could still use the ACC-2. Just add a relay to ACC-2 & use the relay to switch power on/off for the lights (tap the power directly from the battery with a fused lead going to the relay). That should allow plug & play for the fan and still keep the lights switched separately.

This is HUGE news!!! I have a '15 RGS and commute in city riding with temps over 100ş in the summer. I also have auxiliary fog lights with the aux button kit installed already. Only one button (for the fog lights) is active and able to be pushed, so like you, I have no idea what all I would need to hook this all up. I am not good with electrical wiring stuff, so if anyone has Cliff's Notes, that would be super ; )

If you you have a button not in use, then just posi-tap the power wire to the button under the tank. Look at the wiring diagrams in the service manual. It is easier than you think. Hopefully this works, but I maybe wrong, since I am only using the stock harness.

Doesn't that pretty much guarantee a constant flow of hot air on your right leg?

The highest watt LED MR-16 lamp I could find is 9 watts. So.... In theory, the LED lamps are only 0.75 amps each. (9w / 12v). I'd be more comfortable with a relay. Now I just have to figure that out.

The next layer of NOW WHAT? is that I want to eventually add some colored accent LEDs. But that is a Future Vince problem.

....I much prefer telling engineers what I want and letting them work their mojo.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. I would not work with my pipe anyways, but would like to see somebody try one.

It sits above the transmission. So... Maybe your passenger's right foot.
