Well there seem to be only a few choices left in this area.

1) New Roc in New Rochelle (30 minutes away for me)
2) Bergen in (basically) Paramus, NJ (45 minutes)
3) Fritz's in Bridgeport (40 minutes)
5) Danbury (25 minutes)
6) Moroney's in Newburgh (50 minutes)

Disclosure:

1) For this example I took Prestige Custom and Fritz's Cycle Haus out of the mix because they are no longer H-D dealers, and I am unsure of their stock or parts ordering abilities. Would you go to a custom shop for an OEM part? Probably not.

2) I am currently a Road Captain in the Bridgeport Chapter of HOG, and was a officer in Stamford HOG before the change there. I have had and continue to have a great working relationship with Fritz and his staff.

The story:

For the last few weeks my Street Glide has been down because of a broken left saddlebag support bracket. Called Bridgeport and ordered one.

The bracket came in and while in the priocess of installing it last Saturday I discovered that the right one was broken too (I hit a really deep pothole!).

The bike was already apart and I was really pissed at myself for not checking both of them, so I was really anxious to get the repair over and done with. I called around and the parts guy at Danbury took a few extra minutes and not only checked stock at his place (they didn't have it), but he asked where I live, and then checked stock for me at the other dealerships in my area. He also gave me the part number.

Two places had the parts.

1) Moroney's...I spent more than half an hour waiting for somebody to pick up the damned phone in their parts department to confirm they had it. I got tired of waiting and hung up.

2) Bergen...Called them and when the parts dept. picked up (pretty quickly I might add) the woman asked if I had called the main number and gotten through from the outside. I thought this was kind of an odd question, and she explained that they had an open house going on and because of that their phones were supposed to be turned to "direct to voice mail" and apparently they weren't. Since I did get through she checked the stock for me. They had the part and I went and got it from them.

Bike's fixed now and all is well (I think).

So, Danbury went above and beyond for me (Yay Danbury!!) , and Bergen had the stock, but (in my opinion) if you're open you need to have live people answering your phones (I mean really, what if someone is broken down?) regardless of what event is happening (slight boo to Bergen).

Moroney's and Bridgeport are too far for me.
Heard one too many horror stories about New Roc’s service dept.
Bergen looks bad here too. Poor customer service.
Going to give Danbury a shot.

No ones taking sides here from my(as staffs) perspective. Keeping a neutral view.

I will however step in when I have to and do whatever needs to be done. That much you can bank on!

Sure thing TIPN8R and thanks for not shutting it down before HDPrinciple had the chance to respond. Their silence speaks volumes, so I got my answer. There is no defense to bad character. Done.

There are times when someone is not worth a response. You are one of them. Done and done.

And there it is. Got my answer too. There is no defending bad character, but then people with bad character are usually oblivious. Either HDPrinciple’s attitude runs throughout the dealership or they’re just a very poor choice of spokesperson. Not taking any chances. Sticking with my decision to go to Danbury.
