Having graduated from & been certified 100% completely by completing the S&S 22 week Motor Company School in Viola Wisconsin as a Factory Certified S&S Engine Builder and Tech ( I also completed thier 14 week High Performance Race Engine & Street fighter Engine School)-I can tell you in this reply(I apologise fo rthe lengthly reply-but I just want to tell you the TRUTH/Bottom line on your engine & head performance improvement question)......
Your stock HarleyEngine employs a 3 piece, press fit and stress weak crank and Honda Brand Crank bearings.(Your engine) does NOT have TIMKEN Roller Bearings-or a 1 Piece forged Crank and the corresponding components to withstand an increased horsepower rating above 92 !
You are well advised to split the cases and have a REAL crank weld(tig welded) performance machine shop upgrade -AND then go to a bigger bore engine /stroke/Cubicinch kit that will accomadate the larger bore and the performance headwork/upgrades that yououtlined in your question.
To "Bolt on"a biger head kit and the larger lower end piston and barrell scenario to increase your power is Bad money spent on a weak lowercrank and engine rebuild-and FORGET a Hotter Cam(s) scenario until your lower end and top end are matched and refined with the proper High Performance componentsand SOLID Crank and forged rod& piston starting point.
S&S actually told me the bottom end is strong enough to take the 106 kit or they wouldn't sell it. Weird you came out of an S&S factory school with the opposite advice .
They did say if I drove it 100 percent of the time like I stole it I was looking for trouble but the average hard riding and occasional race would be fine. Just don't drive it like an *** all the time. They said they have heard of no issues with the bottom stock ends to date.
