I'll be heading up to the Adirondacks for 4 days a week from Friday. I was wondering if any one had had suggestions good roads to ride sights to see, lodging and places to eat.
Depends were you want to go.Rt 30 is very nice. Goes from Gloversville to the Canadian border. Rt 28 is also nice. You can start in Chestertown Rt 8 west pick up 28 in Northcreek you will go through Indian Lake,Raquette Lake,Old Forge ect... If you have a map you can see were all these roads intersect you can make up your own ride.In my opinion Rt 28 & 30 are two of the nicest roads in NYS.(kinda partial I grew up in the Adirondacks).
It's really gorgeous up there. I'm not that familiar with many of the local places to eat, but I will give you a warning: The Red Dog Tavern around the Old Forge area. THEEE FREAKIN" HOTTEST SAUCE ON THE PLANET is their "Armegeddan" (sp?) sauce. I kid you not. If you like very hot stuff, you can't top that.
I almost forgot if your in the Lake Placid area, Lake Placid Brew Pub & Adirondack Steak & Seafood have great food and even better micro-brew beers. You can get there if you're going north on Rt 30 take Rt 3 east in Tupper Lake tword Saranac Lake than Rt 86 south to Rt 73 into Lake Placid. You can even get a T-shirt from Lake City H-D if thats your thing.
9N from Lake George up to Fort Ticonderoga is a nice ride. Contessa in Bolton Landing has excellent italian food and great views of the lake. The Firehouse on RT 8 in Hauge is good too. RT 73 to Lake Placid is a great ride with several scenic stops.
I just got back from there on Wednesday........did a solo week tour of NYS and did the Adirondacks last.
I stayed at the cabins at the BBQ place Tail of the Pup on 86 between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake for $50 a night........they said that price will change on the 24th to ?????? Pretty nice accomodations but the food was not so good. If you want an excellent meal go see Bill at Samson's Bar and Grill. The place will definetely surprise you. Tell Bill that Rob from NYC sent you. I stopped in there for a beer and wound up staying for dinner and then until closing hanging out with the staff and everyone there.....great people. It's located on Rt. 30 about a mile south of 458. A few miles North of Paul Smith's college.
Definately ride up to the top of Whiteface Mtn on the Whiteface Memorial highway. It will cost you 10 bucks but is worth it.
