Default new york title question

I just bought a 73 custom chopper.the title says salvage, this bike was built from the frame up as a one off custom.will I have any issues in registering it because of the salvage title, also it was not built with turn signals or a speedo or tach,do you legally have to have them, cause the bike looks killer the way it is

Yes you can legally title the bike even with a salvage title, however the title in your name will still reflect it is a salvage title. As far as lights, signals, etc. you'll be required to install whatever safety equipment was mandated for the year of your bike. HL is a given, signals maybe. You don't have to have a tach, speedo you'll have to check.

You'll most likely have to have the bike inspected to certifiy that it is roadworthy, a call to the local DMV office is recommended to confirm the above.

The title says "salvage/rebuilt".....no? In any case it will have to have a safety inspection....now I am not sure if you can have this done at a HD dealer or any shop that does the regular inspections. You will be needing turn signals, high and lo beam headlight, horn, tail light, brake light....and a illuminated license plate holder. You will also need to have reflective stickers on a DOT approved helmet when it is inspected.

I am going on memory here....its been a while......I did buy a bike from NY with a salvage/rebuilt title, and retitled it in NJ CLEAN....only problem was my local DMV said I have to go to Trenton to do it....but when I got there it went smooth as ice!

Hopefully yours will go better than mine... In NY you have to go through
an inspection, Save all your reciepts.. A few years ago ny relized that some people were useing stolen parts to rebuild cars, Trucks and motorcycles so i had to take the bike down to one of there state centers show all the reciepts they cheked over the whole bike and it passed.. For the lights and signals... if the bike came with signals i think they ask for them... I have heard some inspectors let almost anything pass and some are pretty diffacult. this is from the ny dmv
If a salvage vehicle is rebuilt for use on roadways, the DMV must examine it before the DMV can issue a new title certificate or registration. The required examination is part of the NYS Auto Theft Prevention Program. The program includes vehicles that were issued a NYS Salvage Certificate (MV-907A). The program also includes rebuilt salvage vehicles from most other states. Hope this helps

yep thats the case. My bud just rebuilt a trashed FXDX....had to go for the inspection at one of the required DMV center( not just any DMV inspection station at your local gas station), show the receipts, then you get the 907 title...good luck....BTW...make the appt soon - as I recall, it took some time, but that may be just cause he did it here in NYC
