NJ HERE
The statute is NJSA 39:3-70. This is a state statute from our motor vehicle code. NJ has a State Supreme Court decision from 2004 that basically states municipalites can not create or enforce laws when there is a state statute that covers the same thing. Therefore, you should not run into too much of a problem with local ordinances on this one.
bill, do you happen to know the statue number for this?
im only going by what the ama lists for state laws, and would like to know for my own edification
http://home.ama-cycle.org/amaccess/l...t.asp?state=nj
thats all i gots to go on. like i said, i dont know if this pertains to a local level, like "quality of life" laws that nyc has in the outer boros
printing it now, and it will be placed in my saddle bag with my paper work.
i run vance and hines big shot duals, (yes, they are obnoxious loud) on my road king. i just got the quiter baffles, and have not installed them yet, cuz i even think it is too loud,
but, from what i read, as long as i have "baffle plates", i can be as loud as i want. lol
and, well, they have baffles in them from the factory.
i like the "approved by the director" lololololol
who is the director? i was at MV in trenton one time and asked to see the one acting at the time.
the people there looked at me like i was talking klingon. like this guy was Oz, behind the curtain
gotta love jersey laws.
they are so screwed up, the people who write them cant understand them. lmao.
thanx again
Good idea keeping a copy on your bike. My son rides a quad alot and kept getting his chops busted for crossing the street with it (up in Sussex County). NJ law specifically states that you can cross a roadway, and ride the easement, to get to a place to ride, as long as you have insurance and are registered, which he is. They leave him alone now. The toughest part he said was showing it to the PO without looking like a smartass.

i rode quads from the time they had 3 wheels. me and a friend of mine were actually the first 2 nj state registered quads
when the program started in 1985.
had this one cop, would bust our chops every weekend, he would write us tickets for op of unregistered veh. we would show him the paperwork, jerk tore them up the first time, said they were fake, cuz he never heard of a quad being registered and insured.
we run into him again, he writes tickets, we fight them, win
this goes on all summer, 4 times!
finally the judge told him to knock it off, he was harrasing us!
did you know that you have the right to operate a quad in a state park?
any state park that has a trail system.
we gave up trying to fight the idiot park rangers. one tried to run over a friend of mine, and two other idiots threatened to shoot us!
been outa the dirt for bout 5 yrs now. body dont heal quite so quick anymore
property was donated, and we took it fromthere. 300 acres.
i actually set up the electric for it.
too bad it became very politcal, VERY POLITICAL, and me, and all the peeple who set it up
walked away with our heads hung low.
no body wanted to fight the idiot buercrats, then we did, then all of a sudden, every body wanted to
have their picture in the paper. weird how that is.
we just wanted a place to ride without being hassled.
have not been back there since the mid 90's.
I heard OCC is moving again, to Newburg,NY. They need more room. I was thinking(which tends to be dangerous). If we do a ride up there, what do you think of a Thursday, if possible. The reason being there is a place called the Chatterbox that is supposed to have an awsome bike night, well over 1k scoots, on Thursday evenings. It is on 206 in Sussex, we could hit there for a bite after the ride. Never been there for the bike night before.\
