Default Blue Ridge Parkway

Planning a trip from NJ to Blue Ridge, Cherahala, Dragon's Tail next Fall. Wanted to do it during leaf change.

Can anyone tell me what would be a good week for the trip and what the average temps are. Thanks.

That's a great ride...Did those roads and more this past June. Not sure about temps there this time of year...I would repost this thread in the "Southeast" section, and let some of those southern boys chime in with their 2 cents!

I just did that trip on my way down to Biketoberfest in Daytona. The leaves along the BRP were changing then... it wasn't the peak of the leaves changing, but the scenery was still awsome.

we rode the BRP top to bottom on monday and tuesday, 10/13-14. Traffic was light, we were able to cruise 60-65 most times. saw 2 cops the whole time. temps were probably 50's in the morning, and 60-70's in the afternoon, but no guarantees you would get the same temps, I am not sure what the 'averages' are for that time of year, maybe we just lucked out. I took my electrics but didn't need them. Used mid weight gloves in the morning and no gloves in the afternoon.

there were 2 detours for closed sections, 1st was not bad (riding north to south), the 2nd was a pretty long detour (40-50 miles maybe, I didn't clock it), put us back on the parkway at Asheville NC if I remember right. We did the Cherahola Skyway, but not the dragon (have done that a few times before already), although we missed a turn and ended up at the store at the start/end of the dragon and it was pretty crowded. Traffic on the Cherahola was relatively light, we hit some pretty good speeds on those sweepers (lock me up and throw away the key...lol... sorry officer I was testing my new bagger brace...lol). tore the crap outta my floorboards but thats all part of the fun.

good luck on your trip.

Last week of Oct has been my favorite time up there. The temps are not too low and there is less of a chance for icing over night.
