I just completed 1000k service on my FXDWGI and I used Redline synthetic. 20W50 in the crank, heavy in the trans, and MTL in the primary. I took a test ride this afternoon and I was very pleased with the result. The engine is a tiny bit smoother and the 5th gear whine is completely gone, awesome!
I had planned to use Amsoil but I found Redline much easier to get my hands on and a little cheaper. I've never used either brand before but I like that I can get Redline from Summit or myoilshop without learning the secret handshake or driving over to someone's house (distributorship). I'm not knocking Amsoil, I just wish they'd use a more conventional distribution method.
Don't worry about it BRO...a thousand miles is fine..the break in/wear in..will just come a little longer..just wait a couple more thousand before you start riddin like you stole it..Redline is down the street from my shop and I always pop in there to ask questions and pick up oil..Your fine. Good choice on oils by the way..I'm not an Amsoil lover myself..I'm sure there oil is great but I hate everytime I do a search on OIL that they have flooded the internet with there product and their own tests. What oil filter did you go with??? I did a little research and ended up going with the K&N. There are a couple other ones I would have gone with but they were not offered in chrome.
Actually, Redline suggests you wait until 3K to use the 20W60HD product. I didn't see any similar warnings for the 20W50. No worries, I ride like my a$$ is on fire from the day I buy them anyway. This is my third fuel injected bike in 5 yearsand I've always found I get most of the break-in gunk out on the 1K service, which is why I decided to go with synthetic now instead of waiting until5K.I'm using the K&N filter. I like the convenience of having the nut welded on and K&N states the filter is specifically made for use with synthetic oils. Thanks for the input, I'll keep you posted regarding whether or not the early switch to synthetic makes any difference.
