Default How much fluid in primary?

Afriend and I are uncertain how much fluid to put into the primary when changing the fluid. He has a 2002 Electra Glide Standard and I have a 2007 Street Glide. My owner's manual says to add 38oz. to a wet primary. My friend didn't receive an owner's manual with his newly purchased bike.

I've read one here that a variety of volumes are added to the primary, but I was uncertain the year and model of the bikes related to the volumes. Some say 24, 36, 38oz., and some say to just dump a quart in and close 'er up.

I know the proper volume should be even with the clutch springs, but it's hard to see anything near the bottom of the clutch on a 2007.

Any recommendations on primary volume levels for a 2007 Street Glide (FLHX)?

Any recommendations on primary volume levels for a 2002 Electra Glide Standard (FLHT)?

Changed mine the other day, and seems to me that on our 02 RK it was 32oz. Should be the same on the 02 EG.
Check your owners manual. Should have all the specs there.

Touring bikes (TC88) take one qt.

Harley has varied the amount on other models, depending on how much trouble they had with clutch drag from too high a fluid level. The correct amount is, I guess, the most (up to a qt.) it will take without clutch getting clunky. Many report using the "bottom of the clutch basket" method through the derby cover that their bike takes more than what their manual says it should.

It lubes the chain and cools the clutch plates through the "splash" method, rather than being under pressure like the crankcase oil. The amount is NOT critical if it is enough to accomplish those two things and doesn't cause the clutch to drag.

2005 service manual calls for 32 oz. 2007 service manual specifies 38 oz.
