Default engine oil usage

I have a 97 superglide and it seems to go thru oil like there is no tomorrow....I dont see it leaking very much..I am wondering where it all goes? and why does it "vanish" so quickly!?!?!??!

Look at your plugs and see if your burning it. Compare your plugs to many of the pics of oily spark plugs online and see if yours are similar. YD

Let's be just a little scientific! How many miles do you ride before you top the oil level back up - and how much do you put in each time?

super duper +1 mr. brown.
like saying i get forty miles to a tank but there is a diff if one gallon vs two gallon tank.

Yankee Dog....thanks for the suggestion I will check this weekend....so if my plugs are burning oil does that mean I need to gap the plugs

Step one is a leak dwn by someone that knows how.
pass?
pull heads and do guides and valves.
Flunk?
All new top end.

Seriously, you need to take the machine to a qualified mechanic.

That is not good! As a comparison, in extremely hot riding conditions my old Glide will do around 1,000miles per quart, better than that in cooler (nicer!) conditions. Burning oil at that rate indicates there are problems inside your engine. That could be, as examples, oil getting past the piston rings, or valve guides, even both. As Dan suggests, you need to visit a mechanic - an indy can check your bike, diagnose the problem and talk you through what needs to be done.
