I used to run stn3 in all 3 but now run Mobil V-Twin 20w/50, Mobil1 75W90 Gear oil, and HD Formula +...NavyChief is right..there are a lot of good ones out there. Good Luck
GMC here
Right on Scofield, Just put the SYN 3 in my oil bag and Mobil 75/90 synthetic gear lube in the tranny and mobil synthetic 10W40 in the primary. Took it for a test drive and seems to be working good although i only took it for about 20 miles.
I just read in a thread that HD came out with a service bulletin in mid June claiming warranties would be denied if we use anything else other than HD oils in the tranny. Getting ready to do my 1000 mile service and wanting to use Redline Lightweight Shockproof 75W/140 in my 2007 Road King Custom. Will be talking to the dealer tomorrow regarding this, but has anyone else heard about this factory service bulletin?
I haven't. As I understand it many dealers still sell Redline on their shelves.
My dealer has Amsoil products right next to the H-D stuff, and Amsoil is what they put in mine at my 1k service...
It's my understanding that if they require that only their oils will be used to keep the warranty in effect, they must provide that oil free of charge. (Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.)
I just had the dealer do my 5k service and they put syn3 in the crank and primary and belray in the tranny. The tranny is a bit quieter in 5th. I did just notice a small (6 inch dia) oil spot under my primary [:@] I haven't called the dealer about it yet. I thought I saw a tread on this earlier, but can't find it now. Anyone know of a primary leak develpoing after putting syn3 in it? Or is it just a coinkindink and they just didn't close up the case well enough. I just have about 400 miles on it since the service

There's a chance the Syn3 caused the leak: about one in ten billion.
Watch it for a few days to see if the leak stops. It's possible that it's residual oil caught in the groove running around the lip of the cover. If it is it'll look like it's leaking for a few days then stop.
If it's still leaking after a few days then they probably screwed up the primary gasket that seals the cover, or didn't replace it as the service manual says to do. Take it back& make them fix it...
Ive ran dino oil, then Syn 3, and now Amsoil in my bike. I am not just saying this, but with the Amsoil Synthetic 75w/90 severe gear in the tranny, the bike has never shifted so smooth. Honestly! The engine seems quieter with the Amsoil 20w/50 in it also.
I recently switched to Amsoil, all 3 holes. I also signed as a dealer. In all honesty, the engine runs the same temp as it did with syn3, the noise is no different, the tranny shifts the same with severe gear as it did with HD tranny lube, and the primary chain also shows no difference.

No manufacturer can do that unless they provide the lubricant they approve to the consumer at no cost. That is Federal Law. They CAN and do set minimum standards for lubricants. But all the mentioned syn oils exceed those standards. FWIW, use the Redline Shockproof Heavy in your trans. You will love it.

There is a HUGE difference.......the Amsoil is way better.
