PapaTravis, Syn 3 is not a blend. It is a Group III synthetic oil, made by a hydrocracking process that basically reconstructscrude oil so the molecules are identical long-chains.What is normallyconsidered a blend consists of a Group II oil mixed with a Group III or higher synthetic.
There is an argument whether a hydrocracked Group III oil is actually a synthetic, but industry has accepted it as such. They point tothe factthat the final product has undergone such an all-encompassing changeit is now a synthetic construction. One of the most importants advantages of a synthetic is consisting of identical long-chain molecules. If you start with some long-chains and some short-chains, then process them so that the molecules are disassembled and reassembled into identical long-chains, it is a moot point how you got to that point; the end result is the same as far as that part of an oil's chemical composition.
