Nothing better than Spectro 25-60 when it comes to noise.

I had HD 360 20w50 in the engine and then switched to Spectro 25w60.
The Spectro is quiet, but the change was not as dramatic as I had hoped. After the change I realized the HD 360 wasn't so bad either, especially compared to the synthetics I tried. I had Red Line in there and couldn't stand the noise. So my experience is that Spectro is helpful in quieting noise. But I suspect any Dino will do that if you are switching from synthetic. I'm in Florida so I'm fine running a 25w60. But if I were in the Northeast I'd stick with a lighter Dino, like HD 360 20w50. I never tried Lucas Dino 20w50 but I'd consider that too.
I have read that the high zinc in VR1 is not good for the cats? I have been leaning towards it as I cant find spectro in my area.
Although, I plan on swapping out my mufflers soon and will be rid of them probably
It's not the zinc. It's the phosphorous. And it's no higher than a lot of other oils used. Most so called synthetics have higher amounts of both. Doesnt make them better oil tho. They need higher amounts of both because they dont work the same or as well in synthetic based oils. Some of the zinc/phosporous numbers in synthetic oils are bordering on too high and become corrosive. Numbers approaching 2000ppm is way too much. 1200-1400ppm is ideal.
Why not run straight 60W? Are you interior NorCal? Also what model you own? Cats could be before the mufflers.
60wt oil and cold starts. Not a good idea. If you need to run 60wt to quiet your motor, maybe you should think about different, not thicker oil.
A lot of engine wear occurs during the first 5 minutes of running a motor and 60wt is just too thick.

Yea 60wt wouldnt be for me as I do ride during winter and cold starts would be my concern at typical temps
Think I will try the VR-1 at next change as no one seems to carry spectro in my area
I wouldn't run anything else.
Buy it by the case of 6qts on Amazon for like $33 and some change. Comes to like $5.60/qt. Delivered to your door 2 days later. That's 3 changes for the cost of 1 for those that run designer MC oil and it does a better job of doing what motor oil should do...protect your motor from wear.
The last time I tried to order VR-1 oil from Amazon, they would not ship to California. Let me know if this has changed. I did find VR-1 at my local Napa dealer.

You can get the Spectro from denniskirk.com for about 9 bucks a quart.
I was so pleased with their dino oil that I tried the Spectro primary and trans fluid at my last 3 hole change. No complaints so far after a couple thousand miles.
