With lotsof local stop and go I would ot exceed 3,000 on syn 3 which is not a very good oil. Mobil1 v-twin, Amsoil,or Royal purple is much better and cost no more and in some cases less.

Don't agree that synIII is not a good oil. Just that it is a semi syn, expensive and not as good as other available oils like Mobile One 15/50 which costs about half as much. In the same price class as synIII BUT quality class with the Mobile one are Amsoil and Redline and Mobile One MC specific oil. All of them are better IMHO than SynIII and usually cheaper. Three to five K is OK as an interval IMHO. Some say longer but I think the filter is about done at 5K and if you change that with the mess etc, might as well change the oil.
Also would advise using gear oil in the transmission like Redline HeavyDuty Shockproof or Amsoil gear oil. 10/30 or 10/40 dino oil or Type F trans fluid or Redline MTL are fine in the Primary. SynIII works but why spend so much when a buck or two will do there.

Agree with EZ- Syn 3 may not be "the best" synthetic on the market, but it is in no way a bad oil. If it were a bad oil H-D wouldn't recommend it since they have to warranty your engine, tranny, and primary.

Syn3 can easily go 5000 miles between changes, so get your money's worth before draining it out...

You can go 5000 miles on syn 3, the other oils AMSOIL, Mobil 1 are better in my opinion and say you can go 7k but I would not push anything pass 5k.
