Good news on the Redline oil front. I recently did the 20K mile service on my '05 FXST and decided that I should probably pull the cam cover and take a look at the cam tensioner shoes to see what condition they are in. Well, with 20300 miles on the clock and only ever used redline oil between 3-5K mile invervals, I have less than 1/16" of wear in the tensioner shoes and extremely minor pitting in one. I'm definately sold on it...
nice i ran syn3 and then switched to mobile 1 and was at almost 40k and my back tensionor was about to explode!!! wore all the way to the pin and the shoe didnt brake off!!! very lucky on this. the inside tensinor is the one that wares the fastest and should be what you gauge your replacement on. im going to gears the next time i have to change them. i'll see if i can post a pic
I just sent a sample off to Blackstone labs for analysis.
RedLine 20w60, 4940 miles, not many trips less than 30 miles and mostly 100 mile plus trips. 3000 miles of which was in the South of France where the temp got to a reasonable level.
Changed it for 20w50 for the winter, and will change that out at about 5000 miles and send another sample off.
