Default Need help.

OK I have taken the scoot to the dealer twice and an Indy once. (2003 FLSTCI - Heritage)

When I purchased the bike it was good to go - no worries for 2500 miles.

I took it into the local Dealer and had all three fluids changed over to Harley's Syn3. They had a special.

Then I took it into the local INDY (5000 miles later)- because the dealer was gettin bad.....(long story) - and had all 3 fluids changed again. Told the INDY I was running synthetic SYN3 from Harley.

He changed the fluids as such:

Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum 20W-50 for engine
Bel Ray?
Amsoil?

He said he always goes with this combination because each fluid is a different color. He said if you get a leak the first thing I will ask you is what color is it. That will tell him right away where he has to look. It made sense to me.

Now, I'm buying a book and doing this $hit by myself.

I don't know if BelRay is in the trans or primary....Which is better where?

Question #1: What color are the above oils?
I believe the Spectro is black like motor oil, and the Bel-Ray is red? What color is the Amsoil?

Question#2: Should I stick with this system of colors in case of a leak? Will changing from one synthetic to another do anything?

Question#3: Bike has 21,000 miles on it right now - should I install an oil cooler? Will it help at this stage? (Was looking at Harley's oil cooler....)

Sorry for being a NOOB at this.......

Probably an OK combination. I run Redline 20/60 Oil in the crankcase because I ride mostly in hot climates and it handles heat very well. Amsoil or Mobile One would be good substitutes IMHO for your crankcase in 15/50 or 20/50 wts. I use Redline HD shockproof in the transmission, it is RED too.

The primary doesn/t ,IMO, need an expensive oil. I use either Type F ATF or Redline MTL (bought on sale at Advance auto for cheap but any non friction modified 10/40 or other similar dino is fine. I change the primary more frequently since it is not filtered so expensive, heat resistant synthetics are a waste of money.

One thing I don't like is using motor oil in the transmission. With the plethora of good gear oils out there I see no need to. Some say convenience but I just don't see that.
