I have an 05 SuperGlide. I have seen a number of differing threads on fluids to be changed and and recommended replacement fluids. Can someone provide a synopsis...i.e. What fluids need to be changed and what is the recommended replacement. Any help is appreciated as I am coming up on my 5000 mile point.
Todd, If you don't have a service manual for your ride-get one. There is more to a 5 K than oil. Speaking of oil however, you need to change all the oil every 5K according to HD. Most here will tell you to change the engine more frequently. Your bike, your decision. Good Luck!
Good advise given above. Oil brand or type is usually a personal choice for most. As far as suggestions, I would recommend synthetic Mobil1 V Twin in the motor, synthetic gear lube in the trans (like Mobil 75/90) and HD primary oil in the primary which I find works better than synthetics because of the friction modifiers in most engine oils.It gives you a better feel to the clutch than synthetics do.
There are also other service functions to be performed in the service check that would be outlined..>> HERE <<if you are doing it yourself.
If you enter the Vin# and miles, it will tell you what needs to be done.
REPLACE THEM ALL. A GOOD 20-W 50 SYNTHETIC IN THE ENGINE SUCH AS AMSOIL OR MOBIL1, A 75-90 GEAR OIL FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND A GOOD PRIMARY OIL SUCH AS HARLEYS.
