Most Harley engines (including yours) are fairly low-tech and don't share their oil sump with the gearbox like metrics, so the main concern is using something that can hold up to the heat in an air-cooled engine fairly well. Any good synthetic on the market will fill the bill and provide more than adequate lubrication. Marketing hype and company-sponsored "tests" aside you'd be hard-pressed to find any brand that outperforms the others enough to matter.

$13 a quart Amsoil, $10 a quart Syn 3, or $4 a quart Mobil 1 15W-50 from Walmart- take your pick. They all work great...

This would be a good comination if you are concerned about heat....
Engine (3 quarts) and Primary (1 quart) Oil: Mobil 1 for V-Twins 20/50
Transmission oil (1 quart): Mobil 1 75/90

Next time, consider the following:
Walmart carries 75-90 and 75-140 full synthetic under their house brand, Super Tech,
in the identical container that Mobil 1 comes in at one-half the price.

Somebody once wrote; We all agree that some oil is better than no oil, clean oil is better than dirty oil, everything else having to do with oil in a Harleywill get very controversial.

I usefulll syn Mobil 1 15w 50 in the crank, full syn 75-90 in the transmission anddino Valoline 20w50oil for 4 stroke motorcycles in theprimary. That's my story and I'm sticken to it.

If you stay within the confines of the mainstreamarguments, you will be safe with your decision. Good Luck.

I run amsoil just because I use it in all other vehicles. Cheaper than h/d oil. As I used to tell my customers though, any good quality oil with regular change intervals will give good protection. I suggest synthetic for air cooled, holds up to heat much better, but if you use conventional, change more frequently. I have seen very high mileage out of extended oil change amsoil engines in comparison to same engines on conventional oil that required repair. jmho.

Amsoil is the best in the industry. Pricey but you get what you pay for with them.
Can you show evidence for this claim? Please don't send a link to the White Paper. Thank you.
