I've recently purchased a 2006, XL883 and I can not find 1.) the dipstick, or 2.) the drain plug for the crank case. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Dipstick is on the right side in the cover below the seat. Push down on the flush cap and it should then pop up to allow you to twist & remove the dipstick.
There is no crank case drain plug. You bike is a dry sump system. The oil tank drain is a hose with a plug in the end, held by a hose clamp. Hose should be visible under the bike, left side, behind the engine/tranny.
Now, I'm using a 2007 XLN as a reference, so it might be a bit different on the 2006 XL, except for the dry sump-no crank case drain plug part.
Your best bet is to purchase a service manual. The dipstick is located in the cap for the oil tank on the right side of the motorcycle. As you sit on it, the cap should be just under your right thigh. To drain the motor oil, there is a rubber hose held on by a hose clamp under the frame close to the fuel vapor canister. You undo the hose clamp and pull the rubber hose off of where it is attached to the frame and the oil will come out. Have a large enough container ready to catch the oil as it comes out of the rubber hose. Good luck and ride safe.
