Default Oil change intervals

I have an 07 super glide with the 96 cu. in. engine. Heres my dilemma, my service manual says I should change the oil every 5,000 miles. One of my local dealers says the same thing. The other local dealer says that all big V-twins should have oil changes every 2,500 miles. I do my own services. 5,000 miles seems a little long to me. I have been going with every 3,000 miles. Oil looks pretty good. I use the Mobil 1 V-twin 20W-50. Just wanna see what other folks change their oil at and what the oil looks like.

You can probably go longer no problem with that oil, but many of us go conservative and that 3-5k range is pretty common. It's not a huge expense to keep it fresh.

You really should change BEFORE storage, not in the Spring.

I change oil and primary at 5,000 miles. Trans get changed at 10,000 miles. I use Amsoil 20W50 in engine and primary. Trans gets Amsoil SVG 75W110.

I have a prepay maintance plan from the dealer and they change the engine oil every 2500 miles. And all of the other services are also covered. They will put in either Dino or syn oil and no extra cost.
