I'm just a "fluid change freak" I guess, but old habits are hard to change.....

No doubt many would consider it overkill, especially when considering the quality of today's oils, but I change the engine fluid every 2,500 to 3,000 miles and the primary and tranny fluid about every 5,000 to 6,000 miles. Doesn't matter if I'm running a top end Group 5 fluid like RedLine or a HDEO such as Rotella T.

Yeah I know, it's probably not necessary, but it only takes a few minutes to change fluids, doesn't cost all that much, and it gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling.

OFG, from looking at the chart you posted it looks as if 50 wt is about the same wt as 90 "GEAR" oil. so 110 wt looks like 60 and 140 is the same as 70 wt. So it makes sense that some people say it quiets the trans down. But it just masks the noise not repair or correct it. I have found 20/50 wt oil in the primary can cause drag on the plates which makes for noisey shifts into first and bangs into other gears. Almost like shifting without the clutch. Just by changing to a 10/40 or 15/40 makes it shift like new. The only thing I got from gear oil was a funky gear oil smell when it gets good and hot.

Engine: Any high-quality synthetic 20w50 or thereabouts. Does not need to be motorcycle-specific.

Tranny: Any gear oil 85w140 or higher, synthetic preferred. Older 5-speeds run well on 75w90 and heavier may be overkill for these.

Primary: Any fossil engine oil, 10w40 or higher, without friction modifiers and preferably not synthetic. Cheaper is actually better in this case, as clutch disks need some friction to operate properly. ATF Type F also works well.
