Use the search button. It's been answered a thousand times. Also there's a section dedicated to oil under general tech.

Yes you can and many do.
When I ran amsoil I ran the 20W50 in engine
and primary and severe gear it the tranny.
Personnaly I use Mobil 1 because it's available locally.

Im switching to mobil 1 cause i can get it at the parts store and a couple bucks cheaper but right now i have 20/50 in the engine and 10/40 in the primary and the amsoil gear lube in the transmission. I really dont like the idea of engine oil in a trans? and it was suggested to me to run the 10/40 in the primary so i did.

I use mobile 1 synthetic 15w-50 in all three holes. 45K miles and no problems.

Hmmm this is a mystery, why not use specific oil made for specific parts of the bike? Is there a real difference or is it marketing? Technically there must be some differences?

Hey, while you're changing your oil/syn, let me direct you to a post by a drive-by poster about a great gadget called the Scavenger......
