I just finished reading about different oils and their additives.
Am I correct to conclude that there is not enough difference in Mobil 1 V twin SG/SH 20w-50 and Mobil SJ or SH 15w-50 to pay the price difference? I mean one is just as good as the other right? $8.00 for the V twin and $4.00 for the SJ and SH.
Opinions please.
Thanks Craze
M1 15W-50 works great in the engine. About the only real differences are the label and where you pick it up in Wal-Mart. I believe any synthetic is just overkill in the primary though. Too heavy and why use super slippery in the clutch? Mobil 75W-90 synthetic gear oil in the transmission works good. Heavier transmission oil will cut down on a lot more racket though.
Just came from Walmart and couldn't find the V-Twin by the rest of the oils so I went with the Mobil 1 20w50 Full Synthetic and the 75/90 gear oil. Gonna change the fluids in a few minutes. Should be alright with the regular synthetic versus the V-twin, right? Tried 3 different stores today and not one had V-twin on the shelves. From reading some of the posts it appears Walmart stocks it in a different section then the rest of their motor oils. I'll have to look around next time but will use the regular full synthetic for this change.
At my Wal-Mart they keep the Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 along the back wall where they have motorcycle accessories like helmets and straps. I use Mobil 1 15W-50 car oil (gold cap) because it is almost identical except for the label. Lots of people use it and it is a fine oil. But do your own research. The 15 will flow a little quicker than 20 and that's a good thing.
