Anyone put this in their Primary yet? I was at Advance Auto and saw this stuff, don't know poop about it, I had already purchased HD Primary stuff, so I didn't buy it...I'll be ready for another change in a few months - so who's using this stuff, anyone?
Skip, have you done an oil analysis on this stuff yet?
After all the nashing of teeth in this forum over oil, I never did get an answer over Primary oil that ever made me comfortable enough to make a decision, now that Mobile 1 has the ATF, I'm wondering if this is the real deal.
You know I used to run ATF in my primary on my Shovel and then my current Evo. Never ran the synthetic stuff as I considered it too pricey for the short time (2500 miles) I'd usually run before changing.
If a bike is still under warranty, I wouldn't use it.
And I've had a thought or two about using it on the Evos with the open bearing on the inner primary. My Shovel had a sealed bearing, so it wasn't a concern. Stock Evos use the primary juice to lube that bearing; I don't know about Twinkie bearings. Anyway, one of the reasons I went to a primary belt was my inner primary bearing was shot. While I believe the bearing went south because it had over 100k miles on it, I can't prove that. So, ...
If I had replaced my primary with all stock stuff, I'd run ATF still. At least then I'd be able to find out whether it works with the open bearing. And I've had people tell me that the HD stuff looks, feels, and tastes like ATF, but I've never had any sent off for analysis.
Not trying to be vague; I just ain't gonna tell someone else to experiment with something that can cost a couple C spots to have repaired. But if I was inclined to run ATF in a chain primary (and I am so inclined), the Mobil 1 ATF is probably near the top of the ATF food chain.
So there you have it. I still don't know what to run in it, so I will continue to use the HD Primary Oil stuff. I can't for the life of me figure out why it's so hard, or rather, why I have such a hard time getting over it, but I don't like running the pricey HD stuff in the primary, when I think that I can probably get a better quality for less, or slightly more...
I guess I'll continue to run the HD stuff until I get a definitive finding.
fwiw, I run the drag specialties primary fluid, its about a buck and a half cheaper than the HD stuff.
I buy it at the local indy shop, and its what he uses in his big inch builds. I don't know what the differences are but it seems to work well. I was thinking about switching to Redline MTL, but have hard time convincing myself that its worth twice the price for the same mileage.
