I've been using Mobil 1 in my engine and tranny, but to date have stuck with the Harley Formula + in the primary. I like Mobil1 because it s great synthetic and I get it wholesale from from my son-in-law, so I'd like to switch to M1 in the primary also. After hours of searching and reading this section, it seems there is no concenses on which Mobil1 works better in the primary. I don't mind the Formula + but it's more expensive than M1 for me.
Thoughts?
I'm using the Mobil 1 V-Twin in both my bikes motors, however stay with HD Formula+ in the primarys. Redline V-Twin transmission lube in the big twin transmission.

Agree with staying with the Formula+ in the primary. You don't want a synthetic oil in the primary, the clutch plates just need a regular oil that is not an energy conserving oil or synthetic.
Actually you can use any dino 10/30-10/40-20/50 oil in the primary with no problems as long as it isn't an energy conserving oil.

If your cost on the Mobil 1 is less than you purchasing a conventional 20w50,
I'm having an issue now and I'll report back after the weekend. About a month ago, I switched from HD Syn3 oils to Redline in the transmission, mobil1 vtwin syn in the engine and mobil1 10w40 in the primary, all recommended.
My clutch is slipping with 16k on the bike now. I'm going to tear it down over the weekend and take a look-see at the clutch pack. Just find it ironic that it started after the mobil1 10w40 was put in there.
