Could have been a bad k&n filter or the dealer at the Harley store said it could have been an evo filter? It's fixed so I'm happy, thanks for all the help and suggestions.
Actually I'd say it was the filter too, it restricted the flow, the cooling effect, and leaned out the lubrication flow causing the entire engine to heat up too.

So what's the story on the Evo filter? (considering I should know this)

my indy parts guy thinks he could have given me a K&N KN-170 which has no anti drainback valve instead of the KN-171 with the valve. I didn't keep the carton after i installed the filter so i don't know for sure. We pulled both out at the shop and they look the same, the only differance being that the 171 does have a anti drainback valve. He did give me a free KN-171 but i'm not installing it any time soon. Maybe after it cools down a bit more?

Running Syn3; did a used oil analysis @ 10,000-mile service (5,000 miles of running in desert & mountains). Results showed lower than average wear, and included a recommendation that I could extend the oil change interval to 6,000-miles (from 5,000). Was previously thinking of changing to Amsoil, but just bought a whole case of Syn3.

Personally, I kind of like the idea of running an oil with both synthetic, and dino. The best of both worlds. I have even thought of running half Mobil 1 Vtwin, and half Castrol GTX 20-50. All of these oils will mix no problem. Every one of them states it in there liturature.

Please explain where the benefit would be to do that. It would be like filling the tank with half high test and half a poor regular octane.

Well; Half synthetic for shear strength, and dino, because it has bigger molecules which keeps the engine quiet. I have done this and it works quite well. On straight Mobil 1 Vtwin 20-50, it is a little noisey. With Castrol GTX 20-50, it is very quiet. With both, it is still very quiet. You pays your money, and makes your choice.

I just switched to AMSOIL and have higher oil pressure and quieter running. Love it in my 07 streetglide.

Amsoil, forever ! Cooler temps, quiter engine, longer life. You can double oil change intervals. Alot of folks dont know,Amsoil was the first developer of Syn Oil for the Air Force. The product far out performs all others !
