Hi all, I will put my sporty in storage in a couple of weeks, got a question here. I am currently using amsoil synthetic, can I put regular oil in the crankcase during the winter storage? I am not going to run the engine in the winter, the clean oil is just for the bike storage. I heard you cannot mix regular oil with synthetic. When the riding season comes, I will put amsoil back into the engine.
Thanks Alex
Why would you put anything else in the bike other than what you normally use?
Three quarts of oil and filter don't cost that much.
Put what you always use back in for storage. You should also address the carb if you are not planning on starting it the entire winter.

One of the great features of the AMSOIL 20W 50 is it's long lasting rust protection. It was designed that way for bikes the sit a long time as in winter storage. The rust protection is far better than any petroleum oil. Don't shoot your self in the foot.
Thanks for all! Should I change oil again when I put my bike back on the road next year? If the fresh amsoil is going to last for a few months then I don't worry about it. This is my first Harley, I am hunger to learn. [8D]
128auto, run your engine to operating temperature, drain your oil and refill with fresh oil and winterize the rest of your sporty ( remove battery, stabil in fuel tank etc. etc.) cover and put bike away for winter. No need to change oil in the spring..................BG

i changed my oil about 1 month ago (amsoil 20W50) with the intention of not riding it during the winter months. However, we have had several nice days since then and i have put about 300 more miles on the bike. Do i need to change it again before putting it away for the winter? thanks
