Default Doing "my" first oil change on the Road Glide

This is the first oil change I am doing on the 04 Road Glide. I thought I would try. I drained the oil out by taking out the Allen type(pipe plug) plug in the front center of the pan. When I went back to the manual I then saw where it said don't take out the pipe plug..... Is this a serous mistake and do I have to take out the other bolt type plug too that is right beside it? Does this change anything like refill amount or something? What is the pupose of the pipe plug?. Also I have some whitish like sludge up in the filler neck? What could this be from? There was nothing unusual about the oil that drained out the pipe plug hole. I would appreciate any help. I feel so stupid.

You probably didn't hurt anything but was there any red loctite on that plug? If so, you want to clean off the threads completely on both the plug and hole (get all the oil off) and re-loctite it back in. If it didn't have red loctite on it I would use blue loctite anyway. Check your manual to see if there is a torque spec for it as well. The whitish sludge is usually moisture build up from short rides where the oil doesn't heat up enough to burn off all the condensation. Won't hurt anything. But when it's cold you need to ride the bike at least 15 minutes to heat it enough. Good luck.

Oh yeah.......take the regular oil drain plug out to make certain you got all the oil out.

The pipe plug you removed is for adding an oil temp sending unit. You want to use Loctite Pipe Thread Sealant with Teflon 565 to the threads.Replace after the the oil is drained.
The oil drain plug is to the right of the one you removed when facing bike.
Tighten the pipe plug to 120-168 in lbs.The oil drain plug is torqued to 14-21 lbs.
Good idea to replace o-ring on oil drain plug.
