Default stupid with oil drain plug

I am ready for riding season so I decide to change my oil. Not a big deal. Can do it with my eyes closed. So I am under bike with the socket wrench to take out the plug and in between my kids screaming and wife yelling I must have been under stress and instead of loosening I am tighteneing the plug until I figured it out. I loosen it this time and drain, the oil. I think I messed up the threads but not sure so I put the plug in with some teflon pipe tape as it is all I have now. tightened it up and it seems pretty good. (I rode for a few hours with no problems or leaks) I want to get the tape off as I heard somewhere it breaks down in the heat and oil? Before taking to the shop to have rethreaded if that is needed, I was wondering if there is an easier solution. Should I try a new plug to see if tighter or is there something I can put on it besides the teflon tape. It may not be bad at all but it makes me nervous to know I tightened it more than I should have.

I don't know which oil are you talking about, as you don't say the bike you own. If it's the primary one, I've always put the drain plug with teflon tape and never had any issue. Just put the amount you need in the threads of the plug. Never overtight this plug or you'll strip the primary case.

Chase the threads of the hole with a new bolt or tap. Then get a tube of white loctite from autozone and use that on the threads it is a hydraulic locker/sealer. If you torque the bolt use the lower spec.
