Default '89 Evo Engine Leaking Oil

89' Evo Engine is leaking oil from the sprocket side of crankcase into primary. I replaced the sprocket shaft seal twice and it still continues to leak very heavily. I had heard of bad crank case castings during this year. Does anyone know of anything that could help me?

The stock seals are single lipped and meant to keep dirt and crude plus primary fluid out of the motor but not necessarily motor oil out of the primary. Since I run a dry primary (open belt drive) I flipped the seal around to prevent leaks from the crankcase. I also put high temp silicone around the seal. There's a double lipped seal available which seals both ways, and that's probably best. The bottom line though is most of these seals leak. It's a weak design. But with an enclosed primary not many people notice it.

Did you replace the spacer that runs inside the seal?
