Stoped by my home town dealer to pick up oil and filter for my 2012 limited and they have a oil change special for $29.95 out the door includes oil, chrome filter, O-ring and tax that they run everyday. I ask what I could buy the supply's and do it myself for and he says around $45.00 bucks. Whats wrong with this picture? I know they buy the oil in bulk but come on share the savings with the guys that want to DIY. So I'm thinking no brainer I'm letting them do it and by the way my bike has 3500 miles on it. I had the 1000 mile service done and I like changing the oil every 2500 on conventional oil. I plan on switching to Mobil 1 at 6000 miles. Any thoughts on this?
29 bucks sounds like a good deal to me, as long as it is convenient.
Car dealerships do this type of thing now too, cheaper than you can do it yourself.
It`s a smart move for a dealership to try and get people into the habit of bringing their bikes into the shop for minor stuff.
I suggest you avoid getting too wrapped up in what brand/type of oil to use, etc... Any 20w50 automotive oil will protect your engine fine, also, you can find conventional motorcycle specific oil at many auto parts stores for the same price as car oil.
You will see posts that say you need this fancy lube or that fancy lube, all costing 10 bucks per quart, or more...
But you won`t find one post on the forums about an engine suffering premature engine wear because it did not get the expensive lube...

Ask yourself, will I really own this bike in 20 years? If the answer is no, then why are you spending big money now, on oil to preserve it for someone you probably won't know or care about?.,,
How about asking them which fluids they use? It would be interesting to know what bulk stuff they buy. I'd also like to know about the filters they use. Where I live the dealer wants $330 for the 1000 mi service!
