I have an 07 Road King Classic and the manual calls for Formula + in tranny and primary. In the past I ran the Mobil 1 75/90 in the tranny on my 03 Fat Boy and Syn 3 in the engine and primary. I used Mobil1 for the engine, Mobil 1 75/90 in the tranny on my previousHarley before the Fat Boy.
So I decided on my new 07 to give the Formula + a try and it works great in the tranny and the primary, so far the trannyshifts great and the clutch works fine.
A good friend of mine justswitched to the Formula +on his 03 Road King and said his clutch grabbed better than with the Mobil 1 that he has been using for the past 30 thousand miles in his primmary. This is why I gave it a try and I have to agree it works pretty good in the tranny and the primary on my 07 Road King.
This is just my experience with the product so far.
Not to try to start the old oil thread up again, but...
I use Mobil 1 20W50 V-Twin synthetic in the motor, Mobil 1 75W90 synthetic in the trans and HD Formula + in the primary. Here's why I use Formula +...
Mobil 1 V-Twin is a great oil and good for high temps, but the primary doesn't haveheat like the motor. It needs a little oil slung onto the primary chain andoil to keep the clutch washed free of debris. HD Formula + doesboth well without clutch slippage andis cheaperthan Mobil 1 V-Twin.
I use the Redline MTL in my primary because it's a Group V syntheticgear lube that pours out like 5w30 motor oil so when my bike is cold (and it's cold here a lot) it doesn't cause the clutch to drag. If you have ever sat on your bike with it in gear and you pull the clutch in but the bike still doesn't move easily it's because your clutch is dragging a little. Or if you start it up cold and that first shift into first gear causes the bike to lurch forward a bit...same thing. MTL doesn't do that. It's GL4 rated so it's more than enough lubrication for the primary. It doesn't have any moly init to cause your clutch to slip and because it's a group V synthetic you can run it longer than a dino oil. I get it at Summit Racing for$7.95/qt which will last at least a year in my bike.
