Default Oil level higher when hot?

Hey guys, I got a 07 Ultra 96". Instruction manual shows TWO ways for checking the oil level. Cold and Hot. When cold the oil on the stick should be about half way up, when hot, its should be at the top of the stick. How is that possible when the oil is cold and settled into the pan it should be at it's highest level on the stick. When hot, the level should be lower as the oil is now being pumped throughout the engine.

Any insight?
Thanks

Within about 1-2 min all the oil will be settled into the sump area after you shut the bike off, and oil will expand that much at operational temp....
thats why "hot" oil check is that much higher on the stick
