Default How much ?

I have a new 2014 BO and have yet to do an oil change. The exact amounts you put in each hole don't seem to be commonly specified. I get it that its roughly 3 + 1 + 1 and that levels must be checked both cold and hot during the process and that it somewhat depends on the filter, but has anyone got a record of exactly how much oil they've put in each hole during a change ?

I'm buying Redline products in ratios of 4 + 1 + 1.

Thanx

Owners manual should tell you.
If you're going to do your own fluid changes, buy a service manual or let the dealership change it while you are waiting for the SM.

Mark, each hole has a level to which the oil should be filled, as specified in your owners manual. Just pour the stuff in, according to the instructions. The quantities referred to should be only used as a guide IMHO, so that you have enough before you start. Don't use them literally. I have just serviced my Sporty and Buell, using only the owners manuals.

Thanx guys, much appreciated. I do have a manual and have read it and I've viewed video instructions from "Fix My Hog" and others. The process, for the engine oil at least, seems to be put 3 quarts in cold, then start the engine and bring it to operating temp, then top up per the oil dip stick.

I'm wondering if it is advisable, "it makes sense to me", after having done this a few times to simply fill the oil tank (cold) with what you've determined to be the end result of the cold/hot process ? I don't just want to follow my hunches. Overfilling is evidently a no no. Anyone record their quantities then go to this shortcut or is the cold/hot fill up always the process you follow ? Thanx again.

With my two bikes (yet to do the third!) I just filled them to the bottom of the dipstick, then ran the engine. After a few minutes running, by which time the new filter is full, I then topped up as per the book. No, I don't record how much I use and nor do I try to judge the correct amount in advance. Just fill, run, top up, ride!
