Default 1990 FXR Lowrider Oil Light On

I ride a 1990 FXR Lowrider. Monday the oil light came on indicating low oil pressure. I immediately changed the oil and started the bike and let it run. After a minute the oil light began to flicker on and off but didn't fully come on. My biggest fear is the oil pump is out. Any suggestions or tips as to what it may be is appreciated. Thanks guys.

It is likely that you have a key sheared off in the pump, if you do, it'll need to be rebuilt.
Rebuilding or replacing those old oil pumps is pretty simple.
If the oil pump body is scored, it'll have to be replaced.

First, I wouldn't continue to ride it until you figured out what's goin on. I would pull and check the screen on the pump to be sure it's not blocked with something. Check that the pressure switch is working. You can also add a manual gauge,so you can see how much pressure you have. It could be a loose wire somewhere, giving you an intermittent signal.,,

Remove the sending unit and hook up an oil pressure gauge to it and take readings, you could just have a faulty sending unit.

I was taught that when a warning light comes on, the only thing we can be sure of is that the bulb works! So I agree with Dave, start by checking the pressure sensing stuff, before you go any further. A switch turned the bulb on - so check the switch as it may be faulty!
