I have a 2009 Ultra Classic that I bought 2 years ago. I have had Harley do the oil changes with the chrome filter and synthetic oil. My wife lost her job a year ago and I am trying to cut cost all the way around. What oil would be comparable to the Harley synthetic oil that I could purchase and put in it.
The biggest chunk of the cost of an oil change at the dealer comes from labour not the cost of the oil. Do your own oil change and you will cut a lot of $$$
Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Best wishes to your wife. The biggest saving you are going to make is doing your own servicing, cutting out the dealer or indy labour costs. There is one expense I recommend, which is the factory service manual, which will give you the information you need to do things yourself. Factory oil filters are about as cheap as it gets, so buy them from your dealer.
As for oils, there are a zillion posts in HDF on them! To write your message you did so under a number of Stickies, which between them will answer your question. Don't take this subject too seriously, or you will never make a decision! Your owners manual tells you to use a diesel oil when factory engine oil isn't available, so be guided by that and the specs CH-4, CI-4, CJ-4.
Take a little time to read recent posts in here, but also in the Touring section, you'll find a lot of helpful info and members.
I might not of clarified that on the thread. My bad. The plan would be to do it myself I just wanted to make sure I was putting an oil in my Harley that wasn't garbage and was compatible with what Harley uses. Thanks
