I road from Los Angeles to Santa Monica, then up to Ojai this past Sunday... what a beautiful ride. First of all it was crazy hot that day in los angeles, but perfect up the coast. When I got into Ojai I stopped in at the deer lodge, for a much needed lunch and cold drink. It's pretty nice place, with some good food... could use a pool table but other then that a good stop. Then road up highway 33 and had a great ride along that very clean road. some good straights, complimenting those very smooth curves. I must say that is a very nice highway to ride. I went up the mountain for about an hour and a half up and loved every minute of it. I would recommend this ride to everyone near that area, you can't go wrong with it.
the next time I do this ride I will try coming up from the other end... up the 5, through Frazier Park, Lockwood Valley, then on Highway 33 into Ojai.

RE: ride to ojai
Thought 33 through Lockwood was closed because of the fire. Think wife and I and another couple are riding thru there this Sunday, Saugus to Ojai to Lockwood Rd., Frasier Park and home.
The 33 is one of my favorite roads. Here's a couple of ways to extend it. Stelis already mentioned the route from Frazier Park. Take 33 to Lockwood Valley Road to Cuddy Valley Rd. past Pine Mountain to Cerro Norroeste. From there you go West on 166 and either go back on the 33 which makes a great loop or, if you have the time, take Tepusquet Rd, to Foxen Canyon, to 154, to 192, to 150 and back to Ojai. The details are here: http://lateralg.org/roads/sbarbara/6.htm
I'm game to do it on any weekend if you're interested in a riding partner.
I did the ride once before the road was resurfaced. It was still an awesome ride. Can't wait to do it now. I am leaving this Sunday for a multi week business trip in the Santa Maria area. I am riding the bike up and plan on spending every spare moment either riding 166 to the 33 and south or heading up the coast on hwy 1.
The folks I work with think I am nuts to take the bike up. They just do not understand how fun the twisties can be on a motorcycle. The only thing that worries me is the dame fog I wil need to drive trough every morning to get to the work site. A buddy of mine took out a deer a couple weeks ago in his car. He said it just appeared out of the fog.

RE: ride to ojai
Got home a couple of hours ago. Hwy 126 to 150 into Ojai, to 33. Stopped at Dear Lodge for a drink, back on 33 to Lockwood Road, through Mt. Pinos to Frasier Park. I-5 home. WHAT A BITCHEN RIDE!!!!. Just over 180 miles of beautiful riding, even though the mountains around 33 were burnt.
