Default Vernonia cleanup

For those that live in the Vancouver/Portland area the following is to help a local NW city get back on their feet. For those of us that live in the area you are already familiar with what happend in Vernonia this winter. For those that are not the town was nearly wiped out in early December by flooding. It has displaced many residents and ravaged the town. I am putting the information into this post as it was given to me:

February 26, 2008

Dear Club Members,

I am writing today to request help in supporting the cleanup of Vernonia. Love Leathers has been in contact with the Chamber of Commerece for Vernonia and has a pretty good plan to be able to contribute. Please see lay out below:

When: May 10th, 2008

Focus: Senior center and general town clean up.
The seniors lost nearly everything in the flood. The senior center sustained a lot of damage and is still in need of repairs.

The town puts on an annual clean up to prepare for Vernonia days. They are going to need extra hands this year due to overall town damage.

As we would like to help everyone we have narrowed our focus to be structured and organized.

How: There are so many ways each of us as individuals or clubs as a whole can contribute.

1) Item donations: The seniors are in need of many daily suppkies as is the whole town (please do to www.vernoniaflood.com for a list of needs).
2) Cash donations: There is a fund setup for the flood victims. Anyone can make a cash deposit into the Wauna Federal Credit Union for the "Columbia County Flood Relief Fund". http://www.vernoniaflood.com/vernoniaflood.pdf click on donations
3) Your time and hands: On May 10th there will be a ride scheduled to leave Vancouver and arrive in Vernonia to lend our hands to the above listed areas to assist in the clean up. (cars are welcome as well)

At a preliminary look, there are about 9 local chapters of various club organizations invovled. We are forming our own group to meet the third week of March to delegate planning for this event. This group is made up of a representitive from each of the 9 clubs. We encourage your club to pick a person to join us and have a direct hand in the process if you so choose to participate. We feel very strongly that the motorcycle community can once again make a difference.

Feel free to contact me direct for any questions or to get the meeting time and date in March. 360.823.2300 M- W

Thank you,

Monique Still

This is all the information that I have at this time. I will pass on more as I am able.

Keep us posted on this. The letter is kind of confusing though. Is the 3rd week of March meeting only for club reps, or is anyone welcome to go? I guess I could just call Love Leathers and ask.

I was there 2 weeks ago. A lot of people still need help here.

If you're looking for a nice place to ride to, this is a good one to add to your list. Make sure you stop and have breakfast or Lunch. These folks could really use your business.
