I was looking at Mapquest the other day trying to figure out a back way into Wrightwood from San Diego and came upon a road from Mt Baldy to Lytle Creek and then into Wrightwood. Has anyone been on this road? It's twisty, but is it dirt? I can't zoom in close enough for Mapquest and Google Earth to find out. INPUT PLEASE !!!
Hopefully you will hear from someone who knows for sure. But If you're talking about Mt Baldy Road, I'm gonna say I'm pretty sure thats graded dirt road.
I remember way back doing some 4x'n in the area in the snow to get from Lytle Creek to Mt Baldy. Can't say for sure what trails/roads we were on, but I'm guessing it was that.
Even Lytle Creek road was not paved all the way back then. I think it is now. Going that route to Lone Pine Canyon should be OK.
What I do when I'm looking for back roads, such as you're doing, in unknown area's, I call the city's public works dept and ask them about road conditions. Or call search for Mt Baldy Ranger station.
