Wrapping an exhaust pipe is really not a good idea as it causes problems with the pipe in the long run, as it weakens the metal in the pipe.

Yesterday to try and at least improve the problem I tried using spacers with longer screws to get the shield away from the pipe but because of the position of the lugs on the pipe it did nothing. I think Harley should have spaced this shield further out and placed vents in it.

Returning to coolant issue I have just been out to check the level again on the dip stick & it's now zero.Which is worrying. There's no coolant under the bike which is good but I am now wondering whether to ride it to the dealers tomorrow or get them to collect it.I don't even want to start the engine to check whether the warning light is on. I am just intrigued as to why this is happening. Makes me think I am back in 1903 when they were having issues then 😉
Bear in mind that the dipstick is not actually checking the coolant level. It is checking the level of coolant in the expansion tank. So it's not like there is no coolant in the bike - just none in the expansion tank.

Personally, I would just ride it to the dealership and have them check it. But that does create the issue that the bike will be hot when you get there and it will need to cool down before they can check it accurately. So you may need to hang around for a while....

Thank you great advice again. I will do that as I get free coffee anyway. Can I ask given its only a small amount of coolant needs topping up would it run that much hotter.

Honestly, I wouldn't have thought so. What temp was the engine showing when you were riding the bike? I have seen mine up to 220F so far.

It does get hot - and got really hot yesterday when I was stuck in traffic for 15 minutes, but no hotter than my air cooled Harleys have done.

I certainly wouldn't wear shorts and flip flops on this bike. But I normally wear bike boots and armoured bike jeans.

Your stats show you are in Eastbourne, so presumably your supplying dealer is Sykes on the A22? It's only about 12 miles so I wouldn't worry about it.

Bottom line is it's up to the dealer to sort it for you. The bike is in warranty and they should have done a pre-delivery inspection and made sure the coolant tank was topped up to spec. Mine also didn't - but I already had the jug of coolant at home when the bike was delivered.

I put some of the gold reflective heat tape on the inside of the heat shield today, I'm curious to see if it helps any. I have used it on cables and wiring that ran to close to headers and such in the past and it worked well. I will let you know how it works out.
