The owner say's it helps somewhat. I personally don't care for the looks. Besides that, I'm coming off a Road Glide with a 128 kit so heat doesn't bother me much.
I can't speak of the Pan America but my SV1000S is a 90° twin, water & oil cooled & it will read 225° in traffic at times. I don't notice alot of heat on my legs but seeing the temp get that high is unnerving.
Maybe other factors involved, such as high humidity in FL, but I keep noticing the big difference in heat from the engine and pipe based on difference in ambient air temp. At low 80s and below engine heat isn't really noticeable. High 80s and above its roasting the crap out of my foot and right calf anytime the bike isn't moving over 20 mph. Engine temp on the display doesn't vary. Its the felt heat that changes. Am I crazy? Can such a small change in air temp make a big impact on heat coming from the bike?
The coolant additives probably won't help with the heat. The thermostat will keep the engine at HDs desired temp.
Only if the bike is running hotter then design or overheating will the additives have any effect at lowering the temp. They are designed to aid the coolant in transferring heat to the radiator where it can be extracted.
