I don’t own one but I thought this would be a good place to ask. I’m looking for personal experienced reviews on the Rev-Max drive train, engine mainly. I’ve read allot here and I’m not looking for problems or negative comments necessarily, just your honest opinion, I’m a motorcycle enthusiast. Thank you for your time. Ride safe.
It's an absolutely bad *** drive train. powerful as hell, low-maintenance. A little first year growing pains and statistically few major mechanical failures. I'm almost 6k into mine and it's been pretty perfect overall. There were software features that I bitched about at first but those are pretty well straightened out now. If they announced the Bronx or a Rev Max powered bagger today, I'd go pre-order one without hesitation. I'm 100% in on this motor.
Thanks 3dognate, the water cooled bagger is what I’m expecting from them in the near future. The PanAm is not a lightweight bike, the gear ratio is low but I see why due to the type of riding it’s designed for. If I was younger I’d at least test ride one and prolly should/will. I do like some of the new technology it offers too. I’m glad to hear you’re happy with it, carry on and I’ll keep an eye out for long term reliability.
First of all, love my PanAm, love the drive train. Smooth, powerful, and so far for me, reliable. I have about 4k on my bike and I ride it both on paved road and fire roads and two tracks. At 80mph, you are somewhere around 4.5 K on the rpms. The bike is not a low rpm cruiser, sweet spot for roll ons is always around 4k, the bike cruises most efficiently at 4k. Remember, this bike has a 9k redline and absolutely rips at anything above 6k! At 4k getting close to 50mpg as well.
What rpm is the bike doing cruising at 80 in high gear on the PanAm?
Yeah, around 4500 rpm at 80 in top gear. Which is more than a comfortable rpm on this motor. And you’ll hit 100mph @ just over 5k. The bike pulls HARD in 6th gear too you’ll not need to gear down to pass anything.
Yep. Mid 4K @ 80mph in 6th gear. Which is about 50% of the RPM,
You do need to ride this bike at higher RPMs, personally I like to keep it at about 4K+ as a minimum, so select the correct gear for this It's not your typical Harley.
2-3K is really lugging it. 4-6K RPM is very strong. 6-9K RPM is pull your arms off, spaceship territory - especially in Sport mode. It really gets going from 6K upwards and has a whole new power band due to the variable valve timing.
All in all, it's a superb drivetrain, made even better by the excellent suspension, geometry and brakes. Yes, there are some gremlins with some of the electronics at times, but nothing that makes the bike any less able by any means and any remaining issues will almost definitely be sorted by HD with software updates.

You really think 2000 to 3000 rpm at a constant is lugging? I shift at 15mph, 25, 35, 45 = 2nd into 3rd into 4th into 5th. So I'm cruising most of the time around 2500 to maybe not even 3500rpm.

The PanAm sounds impressive, my bagger is around 3k @ 80mph, the power band is 3.5k-5k, redline is set at 6200 but it rarely sees over 5k. I got 135 ftlbs torque at the rear wheel. I understand they're two completely different bikes. I’m at 85k miles on it, the last 25k it has a 117 HD kit on it. I almost purchased an Indian Challenger but came to my senses. I’m hoping HD puts out a water cooled bagger with modern updates to frame and such before my monies burns a hole in my pocket. I’m 64 so I’m hoping for at least 10 more years on two wheels.
Thanks for all the replies, I see that the PanAm is a hit and I’ll keep researching and take one for a ride when I get an opportunity. Enjoy and ride safe.

Absolutely. This ain’t a Twin-Cam. I’m rarely under 4k unless I’m in a parking lot.
